What Type of Hair Removal laser do you have?
Laser Hair removal performed at our Esthetic Laser Centre is done with either the Epilight or the CoolGlide lasers.
Both laser systems provide unsurpassed safety and efficacy, reliability, and ease-of-use. Its advanced high-power pulsed light technology delivers high energy combined with a large spot size, user-selected pulse width, as well as speed, for high-performance unmatched by any other high-tech laser hair removal systems.
Multiple clinical trials as well as extensive clinical practice have shown that the features of these lasers allow for the treatment of patients with uncompromising safety and efficacy because:
• The right wavelength provides maximum exposure to the hair follicle.
• The long pulse width is more effective and friendlier to the skin.
• Rapid, non-invasive treatment that entails virtually no patient downtime.
• Can treat all skin types from pale to dark to skin.(Fitzpatrick type I through VI)
How long will it take for the hairs to fall out?
Treated hair generally fall out on their own in about 2 to 3 weeks.
How frequently can Laser Hair Removal be done?
Patients have two to three sessions at 4-6 week intervals because hair growth is not uniform. During each subsequent session patients undergo treatment of the hairs that remain. The patient then returns in 8 weeks after the third session to evaluate their response and if another treatment is needed, it is done at this time. Another appointment1is scheduled 12 weeks later and patient is revaluated and if needed treated again. The majority of patients require approximately 6 to 8 treatments.
Can patients with dark skin undergo Laser Hair Removal?
Patients with darker skin such as Fitzpatrick Type 4, 5, or 6, should be aware that your skin is more likely to absorb laser or pulsed light.
You should therefore be especially careful to see a laser center experienced in using that specific technology that you require. In dark patients a long wavelength laser such as the YAG Cool Glide Laser is indicated. This is one of two lasers available at our Centre.
What are the costs of treatment?
Treatment cost depends on the size of the area treated. Since each of these treatment areas can vary in size in different patients, treatment cost can vary accordingly. Please consult our price list to see the average cost per area you desire to treat.
How long does each treatment session last?
Since treatment is always customized to each patient's needs and area being treated, duration and number of sessions may vary somewhat.
Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?
The FDA now requires proof of permanence. Since February, 2000 the FDA has allowed the claim of permanent hair reduction for Epilight IPL and the CoolGlide Laser. But we guarantee our results for two years.
May I go outside in the sun after treatment?
Patients are advised to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of greater than 30 containing Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide for UVA protection if any LHR is done on the face.
How long after treatment must I wait before I return to work and resume my normal daily activities?
Patients can return directly to work and/or normal activities immediately after treatment.
Is special preparation necessary prior to treatment?
No. There is no required pre-treatment, except to shave the area to be treated.
Is treatment painful?
No, our laser system, the CoolGlide has a cooling tip which provides a very comfortable, additional anesthetic effect. Patients have described the sensation from laser hair removal similar to the feeling of a rubber band being snapped against your skin with an awareness of heat.
What are the side effects?
Most patients have very little side effects with the CoolGlide Laser or Epilight IPL The main side effect is temporary redness and swelling which may last for either a few minutes or occasionally for a few hours.
