The word phlebectomy means ‘to remove veins’. Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a procedure in which large bulging varicose vein branches are removed under local anesthesia without “Stripping ” them. A needle is used to make tiny punctures no larger than a pin head and with the use of special instrument these large veins are taken out. These very tiny puncture wounds require no stitches and when healed they leave no visible mark.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy is most commonly done in combination with the Closure® procedure to remove all remaining large varicose vein branches. The major advantages of ambulatory phlebectomy are the disappearance of large varicose veins with excellent cosmetic results and relief of symptoms.
This procedure can be performed safely in our office. After treatment, a dressing is worn for 24 hours. Patients may resume their normal daily activities immediately following phlebectomy.
